5 foods that Detoxify your Liver

Your liver is the main factory of your body. The food you eat is the raw material for this factory. It is in this factory that nutrients are processed for use by your body.

The more food you eat the more you increase the workload of this powerhouse.

The liver also plays an important role of neutralizing toxins that enter the body. It also produces bile that is essential for fat digestion and absorption.

It is therefore clever to eat foods that detoxify or cleanse the liver. Also remember to eat small frequent meals rather than heavy large meals.

Lemons.

Lemons are high in vitamin C content which helps eliminate toxins and other chemicals in your body. Eating this fruit actually helps reduce your liver cholesterol so that it will be in perfect health. You can make some lemon juice which you need to drink first thing in the morning. This will help boost your liver’s function.

Tomatoes.

One reason why tomatoes are good additions to your diet is that they contain glutathione which can aid in cleansing your liver. What’s more, tomatoes contain lycopene which can protect you against skin cancer, breast cancer, prostate and lung cancer just to name a few. Toss some tomatoes in your salad or stews and soups.
They are one of the few verges or fruits that are preferably eaten cooked.

Turmeric.

Another food that is good for cleansing the liver is turmeric. This spice has actually been used for its medicinal properties for ages and is now being promoted as a must-have in any pantry. This is due to its anti-inflammatory property which can minimize any infections as well as treat various illnesses including the ones that affect your liver.

Olive oil.

Organic extra-virgin Olive oil is a type of cold-pressed natural oil that is very good for your body and your liver. The same thing goes true with hemp and flaxseed as these two can also help detoxify your liver from impurities. What these oils do is that they suck the toxins from your body before eliminating them. This prevents build-up of harmful chemicals in the body that can result to high risk of suffering from various illnesses.

Green leafy vegetables.

Of course, when it comes to cleansing the liver, you shouldn’t forget to add green leafy vegetables to your diet. Plant based foods are actually helpful when it comes to cleansing the liver because they contain chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals, as well as other healthy enzymes that promote better detoxification. The leafy greens are actually quite versatile in the kitchen because you can prepare them in any way that you like.

Bonus: Coffee

Caffeine in coffee protects the liver from toxins including alcohol and helps prevent cirrhosis - inflammation. A cup or two a day is a great hangover antidote!

When it comes to detoxifying your liver, don’t forget to drink a minimum of 2 litres of water daily, and much more in hot weather, as it speeds up the cleansing of your liver so that it will function at 100% in no time.

Palm Wine - Aphrodisiac, Health Benefits to Man ?

Much better than beer and grape wine and loved by bees, Palm  wine is a natural juice, a white translucent sap of a variety of palm trees.  Although I have never climbed up a palm tree, I do own a few trees in the village. Professional tappers are normally hired to climb the palm. After tapping the tree, they position a calabash to collect the constant flow of nectar.  The nectar flows up the palm naturally by osmosis and is harvested twice a day for 5 consecutive days. No artificial prservatives are used. The most delicious palm wine or better called palm juice is gotten at the bottom of the tree when the taper comes down. I should know, been there, done it. In Igbo culture, a tribe that originates in West Africa  in the south-east of present day Nigeria,  the tapper gets paid in kind with a share of the wine. The owner of the palm tree gets the palm wine for 3 days and the tapper's share is 2 days. Then the palm tree gets to rest for 2 days...
