Does dietary Cholesterol increase your blood Cholesterol




       The US government has finally accepted that Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern thereby doing a U-turn on their warnings to us since the 70s to stay away from high-cholesterol foods, to avoid heart disease and clogged arteries.

In this aricle I will examine why Cholesterol is finally officially removed from the bad food list.

What this means is that eggs, butter, full-fat dairy products, nuts, coconut oil and meat have now been classified as safe and have been officially removed from the nutrients of concern list.

However, these fat rich foods must be taken in moderation because of their high calorie content.

The US Department of Agriculture, which is responsible for updating the guidelines every five years, stated in its findings for 2015.

"Previously, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommended that cholesterol intake be limited to no more than 300 mg/day.

"The 2015 DGAC will not bring forward this recommendation because available evidence shows no appreciable relationship between consumption of dietary cholesterol and serum (blood) cholesterol, consistent with the AHA/ACC (American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology).

The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee will, in response, no longer warn people against eating high-cholesterol foods and will instead focus on sugar as the main substance of dietary concern.

My Advise

Excessive intake of saturated fat may not increase you blood cholesterol but it will certainly affect your waistline. Fat contains more calories per gram than any food source.

Stick to grass fed unprocessed meat products and organic milk products. 

Natural food sources are the best. Fruits and vegetables are an essential  component of a balanced diet.

A high blood cholesterol is still bad for you. Sugar is the real culprit. 

A large proportion of what makes up blood cholesterol is  manufactured insitu, in the body from sugar. If you want to control your blood cholesterol, then control your sugar and carbohydrate intake. Avoid foods with a high glycaemic index.
