       Depression is now the leading cause of disability in the developed world. Often ignored in poorer countries it causes as much misery. Suicide rates are rising and it is not higher among the poor.

In this short article I will examine 4 easy steps to effectively combat depression.

Depression can be caused or triggered by many factors but my prescriptionatr these simple steps that are completely under your control.

1. Sunshine in Nature

Get out of the house and go get some nature fresh air, sunshine, the source of all life on earth and Vitamin D. Avoid the mid-day sun and remember your sun block.

2. Exercise

Get some exercise preferably in the evenings. Exercise just into your discomfort zone. This helps with a good night sleep and the release of the feel good pheromones in the brain.

3. Probiotics

Optimise your gut health with probiotics preferably from unpasteurized yogurt, milk products and fermented foods.

4. Omega 3 fatty acids

Eat oily fish like Sardines and Mackreal. These foods are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids which is available in supplements. Omega-3 fats are natural antidepressants in addition to being heart friendly.

5. Socialise

Go out, make friends, join a club, get involved in a fun activity that interests you even when you don't feel like it. If you dont feel like human company get a pet, take it for a walk. 

There are sporting activities you can do on your own like swimming, archery, skate boarding , riding and lots more. Whatever you do get out and get busy.

These 5 simple steps with their other health benefits are within your control. they stimulate the natural production of endorphins, the feel good hormone, in the brain. That does the trick.
